First Sewer Construction on Queens Boulevard Construction starts on the first Queens Boulevard sewer. Workers and horses stand in front of George Heckmann's Half Way House & Hotel. The building was eventually demolished for street wideneing.

Newtown - Heckmann's Halfway House - Elmhurst Heckmann's Halfway House - Located on the north side of Queens Blvd. east of Woodhaven Ave. and opposite Eliot Ave. George Heckmann operated it in 1896 until his death in December 1911. The old Halfway House is to the left, Dietrich Mueller built the new halfway house and wagon shed to the right.

Newtown - Heckmann's Halfway House - Elmhurst Heckmann's Halfway House - The old and new halfway house on the north side of old Queens Blvd. opposite Eliot Ave., about 300 feet east of Woodhaven Blvd. George Heckmann operated the old part from 1896 until his death in Dec. 1911. The new part of the hotel (large building on the right) was built by Dietrich Mueller, the Son of Herman Mueller of Old Mill Road.

Newtown - Heckmann's Halfway House - Elmhurst Heckmann's Halfway House - View of both the old and new halfway house on the north side of old Queens Blvd. opposite Eliot Ave. This view is looking west with the old structure at the west end. George Heckmann came to Newtown 1895 and operated the Halfway House 1896 - 1911. Dietrich Mueller, son of Herman Mueller of Old Mill Road, built the New Hotel and died here. His widow married J. Tompkins of Old Mill Road.

The building was located on the north side of Queens Blvd. opposite Eliot Ave., about 300 Feet east of Woodhaven Blvd.
