Capt. Luke Remsen House
Newtown - Capt. Luke Remsen House - Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Capt. Luke Remsen House - Later owned by Ascan Backus around 1850. Western side of the isolated house on the meadows on the south side of the current 65th Road and east of 112th St. (now park land at Grand Central Parkway in Flushing Meadows). Sole access was by wagon track from Colonial Ave. and 62nd Drive, seven blocks away (see 1852 Dripps Map, 1859 Walling Map and 1873 Beers Map). \[Note: barrels for produce and large willow tree, small child in lower left corner, horse in lower right corner.]

Newtown - Capt. Luke Remsen House - Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Capt. Luke Remsen House - Willow trees in the rear of the Capt. Luke Remsen House (was an Ascan Backus House by 1850s). Located in isolated site on the Meadows, on the south side of 65th Road, east of 112th St. (in Current Parkland). Access was via wagon lane from Colonial Ave. and 62nd Drive, about seven blocks to the north.

Located in an isolated site on the Meadows, on the south side pf 65th Road, east of 112th St. (in Current Parkland). Access was via private wagon lane from Old Mill Rd. (Colonial Ave. at 62nd Drive). The house was gone by 1927.

Luke Remsen House - Gnarled willow trees in the meadows along the access lane leading to the house (later about 1850 was an Ascan Backus house). The lane ran from the Public Road (Old Mill Road) at current Colonial Ave. and 6nd2 Drive, about seven blocks S-SE to the south side of 65th Ave. east of 112th St. (in Current Parkland at Grand Central Parkway). The house was gone by 1927.

Front and east side of the house on the lane leading from Old Mill Rd. (at Colonial Ave. and 62nd Drive). The house was in a very isolated spot on the Meadows on the south side of 65th Rd. and east of 112nd St. According to Armbruster, in 1922 Della Corte (De La Corte) owned. Luke Remsen (1749-1839) was the Son of Abraham Remsen. The house was gone by 1927.

Jarvis Jackson House
Newtown - Jarvis Jackson House - Forest Hills Jarvis Jackson House - On the north side of 66th Road (old Jacksons Lane), just west of 110th St. This was an isolated house out in the Meadows, some distance from the Old Capt. Luke Remsen house. The Backus family later owned this house.
Jarvis Jackson House
Newtown - Jarvis Jackson House and Barn - Forest Hills Jarvis Jackson House and Barn - Located on the north side of 66th Road, slightly west of 110th St. the house was built circa 1820. Wagon path in front of buildings is Jacksons Lane, the access road from Old Astoria Road (was about on line of 100th St.), which connected with Old Mill Rd. in the north and the current Queens Blvd. in south. Jarvis was a N.Y. Assemblyman 1835-37. Ascan Backus later owned this property.
Jarvis Jackson House
Newtown - Jarvis Jackson House and Barn - Forest Hills Jarvis Jackson House and Barn - View looking north toward the house (at right) and barn from about line of current 67th Road. The barn and house fronted on Jacksons Lane (about on line of 66th Road), between 108th St. and 110th St. The house was built around 1820 after an older house burned down. Ascan Backus acquired the property, and was owned by J.D. Backus in 1891, 1896. Photo was taken April 1923.
Jarvis Jackson House
Newtown - Jarvis Jackson House - Forest Hills Jarvis Jackson House - Built in 1820 by carpenter Thorne of Glen Cove just to the east of the original Jackson Homestead, which was destroyed by fire. On the north side of Jackson Lane (now 66th Road), just west of 110th St. Jarvis Jackson was a member of the N.Y. Assembly 1835-37. Ascan Backus eventually acquired the house and farm, and later it went to J.D. Backus (1890s). Photo taken April 1923.

Newtown - Jarvis Jackson House and Barn - Forest Hills Jarvis Jackson House and Barn - Rear (north facade) on Jacksons Lane, today it would be the north side of 66th Road a little west of 110th St. the original Jarvis Farmhouse a little to the west was destroyed by fire, and the carpenter Thorne of Glen Cove built this house in about 1820 for Jackson. Ascan Backus later owned this house.
