Newtown - Capt. Luke Remsen House - Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

Capt. Luke Remsen House - Later owned by Ascan Backus around 1850. An isolated house on the meadows on the south side of the current 65th Road, east of 112th St. (now park land at Grand Central Parkway in Flushing Meadows). Sole access was by wagon track from Colonial Ave. and 62nd Drive, seven blocks away (see Dripps Map of 1852, Walling Map of 1859, Beers Map of 1873). Barns and outbuildings on right side. The house was gone by 1927.
