Orpheum Theater, 1941.
The Orpheum Theatre opened on December 31, 1900, and presented live performances to an auditorium that sat nearly 2000 people. The B.F. Keith-Albee chain took over the venue between 1912 and 1929 and hosted mostly vaudeville. For the last 24 years, RKO operated the theatre. This photograph captures the marquee in June 1947 as the nearby elevated train infrastructure was being removed. In 1953 the theatre closed and the building demolished. After decades of functioning as a parking lot, a new building was erected on the site in the mid-2010s.
