Tug Boat "Watuppa," August 10, 1936. By the late 1920s, more than 700 tug boats crowded New York Harbor, assisting in the movement of massive amounts of freight. The steam tugboat Watuppa, seen here, was owned by McCarren Towing Line, a company which dates to 1864 and continues to own and operate New York Harbor tugs. Taken from Pier 5 in Brooklyn Heights, the view in the distance is of the Financial District and Lower Manhattan.
