New York Waterway Terminal
Post

The West Midtown Ferry Terminal, operated by the New York Waterway company, is located at Pier 79 on the Hudson River and 39th Street. The terminal's design includes a bus garage and incorporates two of the Lincoln Tunnel's ventilation shafts. The air shafts are constructed of brick in the Art Deco Style. The original terminal, seen here, was built in 1985. An updated design was completed in the mid-2000s after September 11th prompted fears surrounding train travel increased demand for ferry service. The terminal is owned by the New York City but leased to New York Waterway, a private transportation company.

A Drive Along the West Side
Story

Take a drive up the West Side! This story guides us along the path of the West Side Highway. Following the western shoreline of Manhattan is the West Side Highway. In history, it has passed the World Trade Center, various warehouses and slaughterhouses for livestock received on piers in the Hudson, and Moses' famous failure, the West Side Elevated Highway. Since the 19th century, the West Side Highway has been a vital part of the city's system of roadways.
