Eastern Hotel

In 1790, Captain John Cole purchased this property and demolished a two-story warehouse on the site to build the Eagle Hotel, which opened in 1822. It was renamed the Eastern Hotel in the late 1850s in honor of the S.S. Great Eastern, the largest ship ever built at the time. The hotel was demolished sometime after 1963.
