Van Cortlandt House Museum
Solidly built of locally quarried fieldstone with contrasting brick trim, Frederick Van Cortlandt’s mansion is one of the handsomest Georgian manor houses of the era. The formidable size of the house and the quality of its interiors are evidence of the great wealth amassed by a few prominent 18th-century New York families. The interior combines the formal elegance of Georgian style with features typical of the older, more conservative Dutch Colonial tradition.
