Board of Water Supply. City Water Tunnel No. 1. By September of 1914, work on over five miles of pressure tunnel measuring 14 to 15 feet in diameter was nearing completion. During the year, the tunnel that ran from Burnside Avenue in the Bronx to West 99th Street in Manhattan was lined with concrete, grouted, cleaned, and caulked. These workers are sitting above a finished section of the pipeline perched inside one of the vertical shafts of the tunnel. September 29, 1914.
