Fort Hamilton Parkway Entrance
Post
Structures located at the Eastern Entrance to Green-Wood, ca. 1880. After Green-Wood made several expansions to its land area to the southeast, the Eastern Entrance at Fort Hamilton Avenue (now Fort Hamilton Parkway) was opened in 1876. Ocean Parkway Bike Path
Story
Stretching from the southwest entrance of Prospect Park to the ocean shore of Coney Island, Ocean Parkway spans just under five miles across the borough of Brooklyn. In 1894, the parkway became New York City’s first dedicated bicycle path, and the very first in the United States!
508 McDonald Avenue
Post
Gravesend Avenue (known as McDonald Avenue since 1933), looking south toward Kensington Junction, from a point outside No. 508, the Prosperity Meat Market; May 8, 1929. The Gravesend Avenue trolley line tracks, originally operated by the Prospect and Coney Island Railroad, ran from Green-Wood Cemetery to Coney Island. Although the surface line was largely made redundant by the opening of the IND Culver Line subway, in 1933, the McDonald Avenue trolley remained in operation until the final day of Brooklyn streetcar service, on October 30, 1956.
