"Meditations in an Emergency" by Frank O’Hara, 1957 was published five years after the American Psychiatric Association listed homosexuality as a sociopathic personality disturbance, and four years after President Dwight Eisenhower signed an executive order banning homosexuals from working for the federal government or any of its private contractors.
