This beautifully intact cast-iron structure which dates to 1880 was later owned by W. Jennings Demorest, and in 1891 was extended through block with the construction of a connecting structure at 5 East 13th Street. It served as the headquarters of the New York City Woman Suffrage League, which led the late 19th century effort to extend the vote in New York State to women, while also serving as a home to a variety of significant photographers, artists, philanthropic organizations, and commercial enterprises.
