This seven-story Beaux Arts Belle Epoque structure, featuring terra cotta and cast iron, was constructed in 1892-93. It was designed by De Lemos & Cornes for G. Gennert, a photographic materials company founded by two German immigrant brothers. The building also housed stained glass artisans Heinigke & Bowen, whose designs decorated the Library of Congress and Carnegie Hall.
