This 1852-1853 Italianate-style building was built for railroad and coal magnate Irad Hawley, and is an individual New York City landmark. This is the only surviving completely intact mansion or house on Lower Fifth Avenue, which was first developed almost entirely with such structures. The Salmagundi Club, a notable artists club founded in 1871, has resided here since purchasing the building in 1917.
