This plaque marks the Battle of Fort Washington, which was fought on November 16th, 1776 between the United States and Great Britain during the Revolutionary War. Today is the site of Bennett Park, which is where the highest terrestrial point in Manhattan is found. A plaque embedded in an exposed rock marks its elevation at 265 feet above sea level.
