The Brooklyn Daily Eagle states that the Navy Boys Club was founded in 1926 by a group of citizens after the children's court stated that the surrounding area had the greatest level of juvenile delinquency in the borough. Initially founded at Nassau street, they moved to a mission on Gold Street and York Street.

The goal was to engage the children with productive afterschool activities such as basketball, baseball, boxing ping-pong, and table games. Moreover, they provided bowling alleys, printing shops, and a library as well as free check-ups from volunteering doctors.

One of the most popular activities at the club was boxing, both due to its general popularity and the success of Navy Boy's Club alums as professional boxers.

The club would arrange fights with Atheltic Commissioners and pro Boxers as refs. Taking place internally and against other clubs, they would take care to add extra cushioning (however, it still looks like it hurt!)

However, Boxing was just one of many activities and generally, the Navy Boys Club was much beloved. In 1983, it merged with the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club and still serves the community today.
