Parachute Jump

This couple canoodles on Coney Island's Parachute Jump. Initially constructed for New York's 1939-1940 World Fair, it was purchased by the Tilyou Brothers and shipped out to Coney Island where it stands to this day. A date spot for many couples over the years, it still stands (though no longer is in use.)

Alice Austen House (Clear Comfort)

This photo depicts Alice Austen and her lifelong partner Gertrude Tate. Austen, a prolific and iconic early American photographer, and Tate endured a tremendous amount of resistance to their relationship, including the outright scorn of Tate's family.

From Bob Davis: "Honeymoon in 1943. Native New Yorkers, in love and not knowing what the future holds for them. (6 kids, yikes!)"

From CW's Gossip Girl stars to this couple, so many New Yorkers have sat on the Met's steps over the years that it almost seems like they've been there forever! However, many might be surprised that they were a 1975 addition to Richard Morris Hunt's 1902 facade. It had been preceded by a narrow staircase that left little room for romance.

871 Bushwick Avenue

Absence makes the heart grow fonder! Morris Eichenholtz, 93, and wife, Rachel, 90, first couple pictured entering the new $1,500,000 Menorah Home and Hospital for Aged at 871 Bushwich Ave. The Eichenholtzes, celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary, had been in separate homes for the past five years. While the history of nursing homes stretches back in the 18th century, they became commonplace in the mid-20th century during a spree of building.

From Sam Addeo: "Here are my parents: Vincent and Laurie. They met at what was then Queens Vocational High School but they always called it Queens "Vacational." In this photo, they're celebrating my mom's birthday. It was a late July day in the '80s and my mom was turning 18 or 19 years old."

Sweets with your sweetheart? This young couple is pictured on the Wonder Wheel, another Coney Island icon. Built in 1920, it has had a number of different owners since its construction but has managed to open every summer for couples like this one.

Madison Square Garden (1925)

A date night photo captured at the third Madison Square Garden! The least, but not the last, of the successive Madison Square Gardens, the third Madison Square Garden lacked the beauty of the Stamford White incarnation or the size/longevity of the current one. Built in 1925, it was notorious for its poor sightlines, poor ventilation, and unremarkable exterior.

Ebbets Field

Taken in 1946, this photo shows lovebirds embracing against an Ebbets Field wall while they wait for a Dodgers game to commence. Long waits like this were common in the Dodgers' heyday, having emerged as a contending team they took home pennants in 1941,1947, 1949, 1952, and 1953 (though they would then subsequently lose the next five world series).

In the heat of the summer, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers would do just what this couple did: grab (or rent) umbrellas, furniture, and swimming attire and take advantage of the new rail lines to go lounge on the Coney Island shore.

This old couple poses on the boardwalk of Hamilton Beach. Though now much changed due to the expansion of JFK, the boardwalk was a remnant of Hamilton Beach's long history as a fishing village.
