Ludwig Baumann and Co. warehouse, 1948.
Ludwig Baumann was a Bohemian immigrant who arrived in New York in the mid 19th century and became a clerk in a grocery store. During the Civil War, he and his brother opened a popular furniture store. Ludwig himself died in 1904 but the company maintained under the helm of his sons and partners. This building was built in 1924 as a furniture warehouse and would remain in that function until the late 1950s when the company offered it for sale as part of a major liquidation sell off.
