“Aunt Sally Mott's homestead, owned by Mrs. Seaman from 1878 to 1891. It is said that this house was built by Squire John Mott during the time of the Revolutionary War. It is now known as Mrs. Seaman's Cottage. January 1923.”- Eugene L. Armbruster. The house has since been demolished.
In his 1918 “History of the Rockaways,” Alfred Henry Bellot describes the cottage: “the old house...which later came to be known as ‘Aunt Sally’s buttermilk house,’ on account of that refreshing liquid which she sold there to visitors. This is the oldest house in Far Rockaway.”
