Church Avenue Poultry Company, 1933.
This local business (which provided services and products that are no longer necessary in the New York of C-Towns and Trader Joes) was open from sometime before 1920 through the late 1970s. Owned in the later part of the 20th century by Nathan Brookstein, his daughter had this to say about her time at the Poultry Company, "It was an exciting place for a little girl to be. Haggling women speaking many different languages, sawdust on the floor, barrels of chicken feed as tall as me, and not just live chickens but turkeys, rabbits, and pigeons."
