Survey photo of the intersection of Queens Boulevard, Union Turnpike, and Kew Gardens Road, viewed from the latter; October 16, 1930.

This photo was taken in preparation for the construction of the IND Queens Boulevard line subway. Before a final route was approved, an alternate proposal would have seen the four-track tunnel take the more southerly fork at this intersection, and follow Kew Gardens Road (in the foreground) to Hillside Avenue.

Today, this intersection is a true crossroads of Central Queens. Beneath the street level intersection is another crossing created through massive 1930s project: the Interboro (Jackie Robinson) Parkway, which opened to traffic in July, 1935.
