Times Plaza, September 13, 1913.

Times Plaza, so-called for its proximity to the offices of the former Brooklyn Daily Times newspaper, refers to the Downtown Brooklyn intersection of Atlantic, Flatbush, and Fourth Avenues.

Times Plaza has long been a hub of Brooklyn transit. This 1913 photo includes: the Atlantic Avenue station of the Fifth Avenue El; the Flatbush Avenue terminal of the Long Island Railroad (now Atlantic Terminal); local streetcar traffic; and, in the foreground, excavation for the new BMT Fourth Avenue subway line. At the time, Brooklyn Elevated Railway provided a connection between the Fifth Avenue El and Long Island Railroad's Atlantic Avenue Line (this service was discontinued in 1916).

The Hanson Place Methodist Episcopal Church is visible in the background.
