Unidentified Village intersection.
The intersection of Canal, Baxter, and Walker Streets, ca. 1870.
The above view is westward, toward the Hudson River. At center left, west of Centre Street, is the warehouse of the M&G Wilkinson wood and willow ware wholesalers. At bottom left is the Grand Street Ferry-bound streetcar, likely en route from the Cortlandt Street Ferry downtown.
The image, credited to "American Photo," also appears in the New York Public Library's Photographic views of New York City collection. Notes there date it to ca. 1860, though the presence of M&G Wilkinson advertising (founded 1867) indicate a later date.
