Designed by Brooklyn architect Frank Freeman, this Romanesque Revival building was constructed in 1888-1889. Originally built as the home of industrialist Herman Behr, it has had a unique history since the Behr family sold the building in the late 1910s. In 1919 the building had a huge addition constructed to house the Palm Hotel, known for much of its history as a brothel. In 1961 it was converted into a residence for Franciscan brothers who worked at nearby St. Francis College. In 1977 it was converted to rental apartments and it remains rentals today. According to some sources there are six rent stabilized apartments still in the building.
