Jewish heritage mural, Lower East Side, ca. 1978.

The mural, which reads "Our Strength Is Our Heritage, Our Heritage Is Our Life," was painted in 1973 by local artists in association with the CITYArts group. It became a source of controversy in November, 2016, when a developer painted over the mural without consulting community groups, citing danger posed by loose paint and masonry falling from the wall.
