337 East 41st Street, April 7, 1946.

The block of East 41st Street between First and Second Avenues was developed over few years in the early 1870s by two real estate developers. All of the homes were Italianate in style. This house at no. 337 was one of 19 residences developed by S. S. Stevens and designed by the up-and-coming firm of Hubert & Pirsson. Three stories tall and faced in brownstone, the structures were planned as middle class, single family homes. No. 337 would alternate between a single family and multi-family residence for much of its history. By the 1920s most of rowhouses on this block and the surrounding streets had been purchased and replaced with new apartment buildings and housing projects. Today no. 337 is once again a single family home and the lone survivor of its original streetscape.
