View of Ashland Place, looking north toward the Brooklyn Academy of Music (center-right, in the distance), October 19, 1910.
This photograph was taken as part of a survey ahead of the construction of the BMT Fourth Avenue Line, which today runs beneath Ashland Place. The photographer's vantage point is outside the former No. 149 Ashland Place (Ashland Place has since been extended to include the former Raymond Street, at which point addresses were renumbered). At left, on the west side of Ashland Place are storefronts for the Long Island Bird Store — advertising poultry and pigeons — and a hay and grain supplier.
Today, the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower (One Hanson Place) stands immediately to the right of this vantage point.
