Amity Street, between Court and Clinton Streets, February 12, 1960.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission’s 1969 Designation Report for Cobble Hill describes No. 179 (center-right, with mansard roof) as “an unusually interesting example of the French Second Empire style as modified by Neo-Grec decorative motifs,” noting it’s prominent triangular pediments, mansard roof, and ironwork.

The townhouse was built in the early 1870s for John Shuster, the owner of “a successful marble works."
