Gantries on the Long Island City Waterfront, 1978.

The transfer bridges and support gantries were constructed in 1925 and used to transfer freight cars from barges onto the Long Island Rail Road tracks for travel to industries on Long Island. The gantries were out of use by the 1970s and in 1998 this southern waterfront area and the area just to the north (part of the former Pepsi bottling plant) were developed into Gantry State Park.
