This building is a rare surviving example of the countless German clubs which were established during the second half of the 19th century on New York’s Lower East Side, in the area known as Kleindeutscheland. The German Renaissance Revival style of this building, seen in the high mansard roof with tall, ornate dormers and the classical detailing on the rest of the facade, is unusual in New York City
