Originally the Harold I. Pratt house.
Council on Foreign Relations, 58 East 68th Street, ca. 1975.
Designed by architect William Adams Delano, this limestone building was erected in 1921 as the residence for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Irving Pratt. Mr. Pratt was the youngest son of Charles Pratt, an executive of Standard Oil and founder of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. The residence, formerly known as the Pratt House, was constructed of custom-made limestone and is reputed to have cost over one million dollars in 1920.
In 1944, with the home unoccupied, the Pratt family donated the residence to the Council on Foreign Relations, where Harold Irving Pratt previously served as a member. The Council on Foreign Relations moved in April, 1945.
