10 East 76th Street. James C. Brady residence.
10 East 76th Street, ca. 1910.
No. 10, at center, is the James Brady house, the last in a row of ten four-story brownstone-fronted houses just off Central Park. Constructed in 1881 by speculative developer William Noble, and designed by architect John G. Prague, the facade seen here was a Beaux-Arts redesign by Schwartz & Gross completed in 1908. (Its original look can be seen in its neighbors at left.)
The building at right (nos. 6 and 8) is the Ludlow-Parish Houses, a pair of separate mansions designed to look like one wide home. Completed in 1896, the the large shared drawing rooms of the homes served as the venue for the small 1905 wedding of F.D.R. and Eleanor Roosevelt, in which President Teddy Roosevelt (the bride's uncle) walked her down the aisle.
