Construction for the IRT East Side Line near the intersection of Park Row and Centre Street, November 13, 1902.

The open pit, seen here, for subway construction, does its best to not disrupt the activity of this busy street. The trolley car #593 of the Metropolitan Street Railway still runs on the shored up roadway. The Old Hall of Records (at right) is likewise shored up and numerous elevated walkways and wooden sidewalks allow for movement over and around the construction.
