[46-50 White Street, formerly Woods Mercantile Building.]
The Wood's Mercantile buildings, Nos. 46 and 48-50 White Street, ca. 1982.
The Wood's Mercantile Buildings, described as "handsome examples of mid-19th century commercial architecture," were built in 1865 as storehouses for the brothers Samuel and Wood, importers of dry goods. The five-story marble buildings include a ground floor cast iron facade, in keeping with the Civil War-era fashion for commercial buildings throughout present-day Soho and Tribeca.
