Sculptor Bill Tarr’s welded steel memorial, an enduring tribute to King, can be found at the entrance to the Martin Luther King Jr. Educational Campus at West 66th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Tarr’s 63-ton sculpture was completed in 1973 and named the “best monument in New York” by New York Magazine in 1985.
