Construction on the IRT Broadway—Seventh Avenue Line, near West 122nd Street; May 22, 1901.

IRT trains emerge north of West 122nd Street, as the open cut tracks quickly ramp up to the Manhattan Valley Viaduct. In this photo, trench work is structured to avoid interference with active streetcar traffic operated by the Third Avenue Railway System.
