The Sharon Hall Hotel, formerly The Montrose. June 5, 1961.
Montrose Morris, a leading late 19th century Brooklyn architect, built the fifteen-unit, Romanesque Revival apartment building in 1888. The Montrose, to which he lent his first name, functioned as a preliminary study for the Alhambra apartment building in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a larger development and an extension of the Hoyt Street building’s floorplan.
Each of the Montrose’s fifteen units had entrance hall illuminated by a street-facing stained glass window, parlor, library, and three bedrooms. The building was converted to the Sharon Hall Hotel during the 20th century, and later demolished, likely in the late 1960s or later.
