[Delacorte Clock.]
The Delacorte Clock, ca. 1971.
Named after philanthropist George T. Delacorte, the Delacorte Clock is located near the Children's Zoo and Wildlife Center in Central Park. Since it was unveiled in 1965, the clock has chimed seasonal songs and nursery rhymes on the hour and half hour everyday from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm. Its design, inspired by the musical clocks Delacorte observed during his European travels, features a tower and rotating band of animal sculptures by Andrea Spadini.
