The M. Hummel Grocery is located at 5614 Broadway, in the Kingsbridge Section of the Bronx. This photo is just north of 231st Street, where a station on the IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line would be completed the next year.

In 1907, the segment of Broadway had not yet been paved, though streetcar tracks of the C-line from Van Cortlandt Park to West Farms Square are visible. The horse-drawn carriage at left bears an advertisement for the Mount Hope Market.
