The storefronts at center-left are Nos. 97 an 99 Court Street. The descending stairway on the Schermerhorn side of the building marks the location of a contemporary entrance to the New York Transit Museum, itself housed in the then-unbuilt Court Street subway station . The station opened in 1936 as the terminus for westbound local trains on the IND Fulton Line (Manhattan-bound express trains split from the local route at Hoyt-Schermerhorn).
