FDNY Rescue Companies are called upon to use specialized equipment and training in rare or especially dangerous circumstances, including rescues of FDNY personnel.

Rescue No. 1 was established in March 1915, and first operated out of the Engine 33 firehouse at 42 Great Jones Street.
