Three-alarm fire at No. 20 Oak Street, February 3, 1917.
On a frigid Saturday morning, a fire broke out at a five-story loft building "occupied by printing concerns," near the intersection of Oak, Roosevelt, and New Chambers Streets. The New York Times described the firefighting efforts:
"Three times the benumbed fire fighters thought they had the blaze under control, but each time the fire got a fresh start and burst through the roof."
