Bergen Homestead Also known as the Bergen's Island homestead, this Dutch colonial home was built in 1655-1656 by Thomas Spicer on what was then known as Meutelaer's Island (now Bergen Beach). John Bergen, who took possession of the property in 1791, added two additions to the home in 1801 and 1819.
