My Archive Spring 2019 "My friend Ellen Retter is standing in front of Streit's grocery store on Rivington Street. I took this photo of her on December 19, 2013. Ellen was my dearest friend. I had been visiting her at her apartment on Grand Street, and we stopped to shop at Streit's before she walked me to the #21 bus stop on Houston Street. Ellen passed away suddenly on October 31, 2018. This is the only photo that I have of her, and I cherish it." —Phyllis Klein

Rivington and Suffolk Sreets - Lower East Side of Manhattan - Streits My friend Ellen Retter is standing in front of Streit's grocery store on Rivington Street. The 90-year-old Streit’s matzo factory and store has completely disappeared, and there is a condo replacing it. I took this photo of her on December 19, 2013. Ellen was my dearest friend. I had been visiting her at her apt. on Grand Street, and we stopped to shop at Streit's before she walked me to the #21 bus stop on Houston Street. Ellen passed away suddenly on October 31, 2018. This is the only photo that I have of her, and I cherish it. May her memory be a blessing forever.
