Benziger Brothers, 1951. Benziger Brothers is a Catholic publishing firm that was founded in 1792 in Einsiedeln, Switzerland. In the middle of the 19th century the firm expanded to the United States with an office in New York opening in 1853 and English-language publishing activities here commencing in 1860. The firm produced not only religious books, but also lithographs of religious images and liturgical paraphernalia (including Catholic vestments). They occupied a number of offices and storefronts in New York City starting in 1854 at 333 Houston Street. This mid century storefront housed the Catholic shop between 1950-1966.
