Theodore Roosevelt Apartments, ca. 1937 From 1888 through 1930, the Bronx experienced significant growth and expansion, which was halted at the start of the Great Depression. But these apartments, located on the Bronx's Grand Concourse, were privately contracted as part of an outlying economic success within the Bronx during the 1930s. This area remained fairly prosperous throughout this time period. These buildings were representative of Bronx residences at time, which were considerably better-equipped than those of the other boroughs in the early to mid 1900s. 99% of homes in the Bronx had private bathrooms, 97% had running hot water, and 48% had electric refrigerators, which was more than the other boroughs had at the time.
