58 Remsen Street, 1922. William G. Low was the step-brother of Brooklyn and later New York City mayor, Seth Low. William was a wealthy member of nearby Grace Church who funded a reading room and library for the community at 62 Joralemon Street. His more well-known residence was the William G. Low House in Bristol, Rhode Island. The Shingle style home, designed by McKim, Mead & White in 1888-1887, became an icon of that American architectural design. It was demolished in 1962, though documented in great detail by the Historic American Buildings Survey just before it was razed.
