Washington Square North, Nos. 21-26 (right to left), August 12, 1936. The 1969 Designation Report for the Greenwich Village Historic District describes Washington Square North as “the most important and imposing block front of early Nineteenth Century town houses in the City.” Nos 21-23 (furthest right) were built in 1835-6 for the attorney Edmund Wilkes. Today, No. 22, which has rear additions designed by James Renwick, Jr., is the Faculty Club of New York University.
