\[Elm Street and Broome Street - IRT East Side Line, Manhattan, NY] Elm Street (now Lafayette Street) and Broome Street, Manhattan, NY. Survey photograph showing the excavation of the street during Contract 1, Section 2 construction of the IRT East Side line. Northward view, showing subway tracks in place beneath the street, with the beginnings of a metal framework for the tunnels. A temporary sidewalk made of wooden planks is in view in the foreground. Notes in pencil indicate some of the building street numbers, and identify one of the buldings as the site of "Browning King Co. later Flandrau Co."
