Central Park, The Mall
Post
The Mall is a quarter-mile stretch in Central Park, capped off on the south end by the famous Literary Walk. The only deliberate straight line in the park, it contains a quadruple row of American Elm trees, an important feature as the location is one of the few remaining stands of the trees in North America. As one of the most photographed and visited sections of the park, it has been nicknamed the "Promenade."

Manhattan: Central Park - The Mall. (1) Central Park: The Mall, crowd with roller skaters. During this and the following year, this sport, always more or less popular, suddenly became a craze; young, middle aged, and old, children and adults all took to roller skates. The Mall and the Central Park walks, together with the east sidewalk of Central Park West, were favorite locations, but by no means the only ones. May 15, 1932. P. L. Sperr.
